Wonderful signed vintage, rhinestone embellished 22ct gold plated butterfly brooch by quality makers Attwood and Sawyer. The brooch is encrusted with clear rhinestones throughout, with bright red rhinestones on the two antennae. There are marquise / navette cut clear rhinestones on the wings and an oval stone in the centre. The small clear diamante are pave set on a silver tone background, but the whole setting of the rest of the brooch is thick gold plate.

The brooch is signed A&S for Attwood and Sawyer on the reverse. This is one of two different butterfly design brooches produced by the company that I am familiar with, but I don't often find this particular design. It is in very good vintage condition.

Founded in England in 1956 by Horace Attwood (Sawyer was a silent partner), Attwood & Sawyer produced copies of 18th- and 19th-century precious jewellery, many pieces for the Dallas and Dynasty TV series, and glittering diamante compositions for the Miss World competitions.
